Hello, funny book readers! Welcome X-men fans (and everyone else too.) The new arc of X-Men begins soon, featuring everyone's favorite web-head: SPIDERMAN!
Since the release of the preview images, I've been peppered with one question a number of times: Are we just gonna see the same old X-dudes we see in the other titles. I'll answer like this:
All of the X-Men are part of the X-Men world. These characters are all tangled up with one another. So Cyclops, for example, is not going to suddenly vanish from the book, never to be heard from again. However, I'm happy and eager to tell everyone that you'll see a lot more Gambit and Storm in this arc. And if I have my way (I don't always get my way, just to let you know) they'll play major roles in future arcs too, with other characters coming and going, depending on what we think is right for a particular story. None of what I'm saying here is gospel, as things can always change, but I am telling you as straight as possible what I plan and hope for future issues.
And let me tell you, folks, Chris Bachalo's pencils are stellar. This is gonna be a damn cool arc, and if you're late to the party (or just had an aversion to vampires) then I hope you'll take this opportunity to hop on the X-train. I'll see you in the club car.

I know it must be hard to tell a story when you have restraints from editorial, who are telling you must have Cyclops, Wolverine, Emma etc.
But as a reader if i wanted to read about them 3 characters i would read any other X book which they have always been in, in recent years.
Which is were i want to thank you, as a Gambit/Storm fan, Gambit in particular, despite his popularity dosen't appear in Uncanny theses days, and for you to include Gambit in "X-men", even if he's posing in the background, is a good reason for me to pick up any comic.
lol Dez i mostly agree.
I wish Gambit would apear in more comics, me and my mates literally buy any comic he appears in and it's awesome he appears in Adjectivless.
I sooo look forward to this new arc!
Gambit's de man! :)
Thanks, guys. I totally feel where you're coming from. The only purpose of this blog post is to let you know I'm doing my best.
And I honestly am NOT trying to bash editorial. (just in case anyone took it that way.) Those guys keep me honest and fine tune the scripts. I'm glad they're there.
Rock on.

Yeah i didn't mean that in detriment to the editors. I wouldn't like to have their job, i bet it's damn hard.
Keep up the amazing work!
I hear you, Dez. No problem.
Working hard ...

Hello, mr. Gischler! Can't wait for Gambit/Storm! They have been very neglected these last few years, which is sad because both are fantastic characters.
I was re-reading the free "X-Men - Curse of the Mutants Saga" one-shot that came out a while ago before the launch of "X-Men", and you said you were planning to use Gambit and Psylocke in this book.
What happened to Psylocke? She's probably the only major X-Men who didn't even cameo in Curse of the Mutants... Is it because she's in X-Force right now, so you can't use her? I hope that's not the case since you regularly use Emma Frost/Cyclops/Wolverine and they appear everywhere all the time. That'd be such a double standard againt poor Psylocke.
Cheers, mr. Gischler! Keep up the good work. Long live Storm and Gambit!
Chris,
I was looking hard at Psylocke in the early stages of planning, but she's being used more in another book and just didn't work out for my team. But Storm and Gambit? Yes!
Vic, if you haven't seen Rifftrax's version of the movie X-Men you're asleep at the wheel.
Anonymous,
I'm often asleep at the wheel. Nothing new.

Dear Mr. Gischler
I'm married to a cajun. Her great uncle Jules was the first person to pen the cajun language. Please, sir, be the first to get the dialogue right for Gambit. PLEASE. I will buy five copies of every issue if you can do this for me.

ALSO, I've always had a bit of confusion as to why Gambit "speaks" Cajun and supposedly grew up in NOLA. NOLA's full of Italians, Irish, and Haitians. Now, if Gambit grew up in Crowley or Iota, be frawm da hawt'a Cadiana, he.
I dunno, I guess Jean-Luc Lebeau could have been a cajun transplant in NOLA, but from my experience, people that have lived in NOLA their whole life sound like a mixture of Mississippi and Boston.
Gambit's dialogue has been a topic of discussion many times at my house.
It's all CODOFIL's fault.
Lebeau2501,
I know what you mean. I've lived in Baton Rouge a number of years now and I hear a crazy variety and mix of accents. Go 20 miles in any direction and you hear more. It can be difficult sometimes to take what you hear with your ears and try to put it on the page for your eyes. But we'll do our best.

I'm glad to see more Gambit and Storm, and it was also nice to see Cypher and Iceman in the preview copy of issue #7 that my local comics shop had!
With over 40 current X-Men and 30 or so students, though, I'm hoping to see a lot more characters in the spotlight (or at least making cameos)! Any hints on when Nate Grey will be showing up (along with Elektra, Lyra, etc.)?
Keep up the great work!
Drew,
Just a quick word of warning, I don't control what goes on the covers ... so ...
But yes, more Storm and Gambit.
VG
Good to know . . . I hope those editors aren't misleading us all! ;)
Thanks for the info.
