Robert Heinlein? Chime in.

In the previous post a brief (but nice) discussion about which of Heinlein's books were better than others got me wondering. I've read most of his novels, but never got around to Friday. Anyone want to convince me to read (or not read) this one? Opinions please. I appreciate that the girl on the cover looks like she's about to fall out of her clothing, but I'm not sure that's enough to get me to pick up a copy.

It's definitely worth a read. I was surprised I'd forgotten about it, but the narrative isn't wicked strong. Then, when I was trying to remember the plot, I remembered all the things I liked about it: female courier/operative (with some fun tradecraft), issues of prejudice and bigotry (against genetically engineered beings, IIRC), chosen families, etc. Although Friday reminds me strongly of some of his younger female protagonists from short stories (like "The Menace From Earth"), situated in the cultural context RAH was writing in, it's pretty progressive.

I'm not sure about Friday. I read it years ago, but still have the impression ol' Bob was masturbating the entire time he worked on it.

my spouse, a Heinlein and Gischler fan, says Friday is one of Bob's best. btw: LOVED go go girls. and tell your spouse I'm working on a piece to send her for the popculture pub she's putting together.
