James Crumley, R.I.P.

In grad school, when I was deciding I might write crime, my pal Anthony Neil Smith handed me a pile of books. On top was The Last Good Kiss. I read it.

Then I decided to write crime.

Crumley was clearly in poor health at ConMisterio a couple of years ago. They broke the mold with this guy.

I wonder if Ken Bruen ever got to meet him. Bruen loves his work.

Crumley was the writer that got me reading noir. I read Dancing Bear and the rest is history. His impact on the new breed of noir/genre writers cannot be overstated enough. R.I.P. James Crumley, your writing rocked my world!
